    I would like to introduce myself as the new Parent Partnership co-ordinator. My name is Deb Astles and I am a HLTA at with responsibility for CPD and Parent partnership. Let me explain a little about what my role as Parent partnership HLTA  within school covers.  As part of my role I will co-ordinate and provide information, support and advice to parents by:

    • Developing links to local organisations and services that can provide support to parents
    • Signposting useful websites and organisations to prospective, new and existing families of Ysgol Pen Coch children
    • Arranging regular workshops for parents/carers and their families on topics relevant to your children
    • Meeting with families to discuss specific needs or concerns
    • Getting parents and carers together socially to support one another
    • Supporting parents and families and your child in school

    Parent Partnership 

     It is the aim of the school to reduce parental isolation by offering informal opportunities to meet and talk with families facing similar challenges and set up programmes of activities to support parents/carers with their children who have complex learning needs.

    Parents are encouraged to contribute and plan a programme of talks/information/training that they would like. Deb Astles is available any time for all who need a chat, advice, computer use and assist in parent/child matters.

     

    Items covered and ongoing are:

    Positive Behaviour Management, Awareness of Makaton Stage 1 (plus follow up sessions), National Autistic Society (behaviour and strategies), Introduction to TEACCH, Computer sessions (TEACCH, Communicate in Print plus follow up sessions), Family Information Services (Flintshire), Transition Key Stage 2, Healthy Eating, Community Police (internet, drugs).

    Where appropriate, sessions are offered to the wider community and this has been taken up by teachers/support staff from other schools, grandparents, foster carers.
    Many thanks to all of you who are able to support and contribute to this valuable link. We are aware that some of you are unable to attend on the designated day, if you wish to contribute to the groups or have suggestions to help in any way PLEASE let me know via home/school book, letter, phone, etc.
