Topic outline

  • Admission Arrangements

Pupils are admitted to the school following a request from the Local Authority.  Children may join Ysgol Pen Coch from 3 years old as part of their Early Entitlement provision, or at any point in their primary education.  They will typically have had a multi-disciplinary assessment resulting in an Individual Development Plan (IDP) or other statutory assessment.  Previously children were issued with a Statement of Special Educational Needs, but from 2022 these are being replaced by IDPs.

Once a request has been made to admit a child (of any age) a member of staff will contact the family to make arrangements for a positive induction to Ysgol Pen Coch.  Depending on the circumstances this will hopefully include:

    • opportunities for the family to visit school
    • home visit by school staff
    • school staff observing the child in their current educational or care setting
    • transfer of documents from the child's current educational or care setting to Ysgol Pen Coch
    • transition visits for the child

Ysgol Pen Coch caters for up to 100 pupils with IDPs (or whose Statement is in the process of being converted) and provides for a range of additional learning needs including severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism and other complex needs.
