  • Classes

    • There are currently 13 classes at Ysgol Pen Coch.  Each class is set up to ensure children are well supported in their learning and wellbeing.  All classes are mixed age range, though we avoid having the youngest and oldest children together.  Staff in each class have the skills to meet the needs of the children in their class and receive specialist training as required, eg: tube feeding, therapeutic interventions.

Each class teacher will lead their staff team to put in place relevant and motivating learning activities, a daily timetable and the individual support that the children in their class require.

A high proportion of our children are autistic.  Apart from classes exclusively for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (for whom it is probably impossible to make a diagnosis of autism) every class has at least some members who are autistic.  As such all staff receive training in teaching and support approaches that have been found to be helpful for autistic learners.  Where there is a need a class may be structured specifically for autistic children.
