Each teacher leads a team of teaching assistants in class. The number of class staff will depend on the level of support needs of the children in a given class. All our TAs are skilled in teaching and supporting children with additional learning needs. TAs receive ongoing training in safeguarding, emotional regulation support, communication tactics, autism support and epilepsy. Where additional specialist skills are required in a class a suitable number of TAs in that class will receive appropriate training, eg: board rescue for hydro, tube feeding, giving oxygen.
Within the whole TA team we also have a number of staff with training to deliver specific parts of our therapeutic curriculum, eg: Rebound Therapy, Emotional Learning Support, Forest School, Magic Therapy. Their interventions are timetabled in a variety of ways to ensure the children who need it receive it.
Support Team
Classes could not operate effectively without a range of services provided by the support team including office administration, finance, IT, site management (caretakers and cleaners) and catering. Every member of staff plays an important role in the children's education and care at Ysgol Pen Coch.
School Nurse
Rachel Field is our school nurse, employed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board but based on site. Rachel is our main link with NHS services for the children and leads on health care plans and associated NHS administration, advising on children's day to day health queries, contributing to Individual Development Plans, providing medical training for staff, eg: administering medication, tube feeding, allergy and epilepsy support, liaising with other health care professionals, eg: paediatrics, physiotherapy, and supporting first aid provision. Rachel can be contacted directly on 01352 792 737 or 07773 230 654.
